Follohus saves time, space AND money with LED-strips
Previously, Follohus used traditional work lamps and floodlights for general lighting on construction sites.
However, seven reels of LED strips have now replaced all the work lamps at their Radarveien project in Oslo. Roman Betisor, from BRV Prosjekt, a regular carpentry subcontractor for Follohus, introduced LED strips to site manager Jon André Strøm, who immediately saw the potential.
Efficient lighting across the constructionsite
Strøm is satisfied with how seven reels of LED strips are illuminating the entire 1,700-square-meter construction site. The underground parking garage at Radarveien 87 is fully lit by just two LED strips. Not only do the LED strips provide great lighting, but they also consume less power, which is especially important given today’s high energy prices.
Lower energy costs with LED Strips
Follohus, a residential contractor specializing in wooden homes in Eastern Norway, has built over 2,000 homes in the past 27 years. One of their ongoing projects is Radarveien 87 in Oslo, where groundwork began in January 2021, followed by concrete work through summer. Currently, 16–20 workers are constructing seven homes, including two semi-detached houses and one apartment building with three units. The homes also feature an underground parking facility.
Now that winter is approaching, the need for additional lighting increases. However, access to power is often limited on construction sites, with heating being prioritized over lighting.
«It's not ideal because good and sufficient lighting can reduce the risk of accidents. One key advantage of LED strips is they provide excellent light while using minimal energy, which is crucial with today's high electricity prices»,
says Jon André Strøm.
LED-strips on reel is simplifying temporary lighting
The LED strips Follohus uses are from Promitto. Promitto specializes in linear LED lighting and focuses on developing the best and safest LED strips for the construction industry. They emphasize new technology, high quality, and innovative solutions that save time, energy, and money.
Each reel comes with 25 meters of LED strip, and the strips can be connected to form lighting chains up to 150 meters from a single outlet. This makes LED strips perfect for lighting corridors, stairwells, parking garages, scaffolding, elevator shafts, tunnels, and for securing areas around fences or marking exits.
«We save a lot of time using LED strips instead of traditional work lamps. Previously, we would spend an hour each day adjusting the lighting since the work lamps had to be moved around. With LED strips, we can simply unroll and plug them into one outlet. If we need more light, we just connect additional LED strips, and we can quickly light up an entire house»,
explains Roman Betisor.
Enhancing safety with proper lighting
The Norwegian Working Environment Act mandates proper lighting on work sites, with specific rules for different areas of a construction site. While traditional lighting sources like vapor lamps and fluorescent tubes were once common, LED strips have become more widely used for both indoor and outdoor lighting.
«I see clear advantages in using LED strips for general lighting on construction sites. It couldn’t be simpler! Good lighting is crucial, and we’ve added a specific point in our safety protocol to ensure adequate lighting on all our sites», saysJon André Strøm.
High-Quality and safe LED-strips
The LED-strips from Promitto are the only ones on the market with both CE and Nemko certification. They feature double insulation and thicker conductors compared to competing LED strips, making them extra durable and safe. These strips have no fragile parts or bulbs that need replacing, and both the LED strip and connection point are rated IP65 for water and dust resistance. For added safety, the connection point also has a screw connection to ensure it’s completely sealed.
